Hi, Last year my family (husband and 2 kids ages 3 & 8) went to and had an amazing time. My question is, would be an additional 6 hours in the car.is it worth it? I have read that there really isn't a 'boardwalk' at Myrtle Beach and that was one of the things we loved about VB with all the entertainment, fireworks, live music and movies on the beach. Does Myrtle Beach have the same kind of events? In VB all of the rooms in the hotels offer ocean view rooms, so view wise you can't go wrong with any place you stay on the beach in VB. Is it the same in MB or could we get stuck with a room that looks out over the parking lot? I'm in the beginning phase of planning our trip this year and any feedback will be greatly appreciated!!
I have never been to VB so I can't personally compare. I have been to many other beach destinations, and others that have the traditional boardwalk.
I think of MB's boardwalk as 'evolving'. There is the traditional arcade, cotton candy & hot dog places, small amusement park, sky wheel and other attractions but it is more a strolling area rather than amusement park type setting. It is for walking along the beach when you would just as soon not get into the sand. This plus the wide assortment of shopping, amusement, regular and mini golf, live theater, concerts in the park, art in the park, 1600 restaurants, and on & on keep me coming back and NEVER bored. It is worth it!! We drive 11 hrs every year to get to. There is a brand new boardwalk too!
You will be able to find all of the things you liked about VB, in Myrtle Beach- and honestly you will most likely find more =) Myrtle has so many activities and entertainment venues that you could never get bored. As far as the rooms go.there are hotels/condos that are not ocean view or ocean front, but all you have to do is verify when you make the reservations that it is in fact an ocean front/view room. We get a condo every year, much larger than a hotel room and better if you have a family.
You and your family will adore Myrtle Beach! There is a reason why I've been coming back every year now for over 15 years =). I've been to both, and my assessment is this. If you prefer warmer water and bigger waves, Myrtle wins.
Also, in a number of places, you can walk a hundred feet or more into the ocean before it drops off. The 'strip' area of is, in my opinion, somewhat nicer than the strip in central MB. That said, if you choose an area on the extreme northern or southern end of MB, you're out of the madness but still convenient to restaurants and attractions. Detective conan dubbed english.
Most oceanfront hotels offer ocean view or oceanfront rooms. If you want a clear view of the ocean, specifically request 'oceanfront.' The definition of 'ocean view' can be a loose one.
Jana gana mana youtube. Have you considered any hotels? We stayed at and had a great time. I hope this helps. I also have been to both and hands down has much much more to offer than. I also have been to Myrtle Beach basically every year of my life (I am 41) and I can assure you the waves are not huge and I have never heard of a drop off and I do swim in the ocean. Myrtle Beach has been voted the #1 family beach two years in a row for a reason. You will not find another area on the East Coast with as much to do.Promise!

It would be worth your drive. The boardwalk in Myrtle is new and growing. I was shocked when I went last year and enjoyed all the music, fireworks, food and activities. I predict in two years you will not be able to beat it. Now considering your comment about accommodations.
You will find places to stay that have beach front, strip front, marsh front, etc. The is 60 miles of beach. You just have to do your homework. I wouldn't think it would be that hard to be assured beach front accommodations. You can't go wrong with Myrtle Beach.
There is no way our family would pick Virginia Beach over Myrtle. It is that much better! First of all, warmer water yes, but I disagree with the comment about waves being bigger in MB; I have found just the opposite to be true on average. Boardwalks, no comparison whatsoever. If that is important to you, MB will disappoint.
Nicely done, just apples and oranges. Maybe wait a few years for it to evolve, but at this stage, as nana says, more of a 'promenade.' Accomodations are much more plentiful and less expensive in MB, even though (unlike in VB) extensive water amenities are pretty much a standard feature in the larger ocean front properties.
And yes, way more to do in the area, you would not be bored. The waves are not any bigger in than VB! That is for sure. The water is warmer in Myrtle Beach. But, it is no comparison is a nice place. There is way more to do in Va. Beach, it is 10 times bigger than Myrtle Beach!
Myrtle Beach is cool, but it is not as built up as VB. There is no boardwalk in Myrtle Beach and it is nothing like Va. Beach for activities. If you have a family both are nice. Beach is also more conservative than Myrtle Beach, there are no strip clubs right at the oceanfront like Myrtle Beach. But, Myrtle Beach is a very cool beach, I just believe VB is a nicer place overall. Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach.the difference.
